Canzine was great! So many inspiring zinesters and friends. I will post pictures tomorrow of all the zine donations we got...
I'm excited for the future of OZL! Aren't you? Today Marta and I bought a ton of collage materials from Value Village for our "supply suitcase." Gotta think of a name with more ring to it. We'll be unveiling the goods at our event on Thursday.

let's seek inspiration...

from Floating World Comics in Portland

It was the end of summer and I went to Portland Oregon for the first time. I was overwhelmed and inspired by the amount of people interested in independent publishing and providing the means for others to create with places like the iprc.
After attending the Portland Zine Symposium, we explored the many bookstores -- Reading Frenzy, Pony Club, Tender Loving Empire -- which combined art, literature, zines, crafts and general dazzle into stores that screamed of creativity.
We stopped by Floating World Comics on a Sunday night, and met Jason, the owner of the store, who was all too eager to allow myself and my friend to consign our books. What a lovely atmosphere, and a friendly guy. The store was filled to the brim with comics from around the world as well as local zines and art books. In back, a little gallery space showcased designer toys and contemporary & adorable artworks.
I'd love to create a store so welcoming. Not to mention inspiring and full of life. Events take place weekly and it seems the place is pulling more people in with ease. Once the website fully up-n-running, all will be PERFECT!

hello again!

Hi there! This is Andrea Manica. I'll be the new gal updating the OCAD Zine Library's blog.

There's lots to be excited for! It's a new school year at OCAD and things are getting underway. There have been art openings and book launches, and while it all seems to be a bit overwhelming, there is much inspiration to be had. I'm about to jump in and start collecting new self-published works from Toronto zinesters as well as contacting internet friends from abroad like Sophie from the UK: http://www.ohmyclumsyheart.etsy.com
and Carlos from Brazil: http://www.flickr.com/photos/8224972@N03/

I've been finding wonderful pages of zine libraries from all over north America, like the Anchor Archive Zine Library is Nova Scotia: http://www.robertsstreet.org/n/zine-library how beautiful! Something to strive for.

In the meantime, let's get pumped for the Student Life Fair happening in the main lobby at OCAD on September 29th from 11am to 2pm. I will be there! Many cool folks will be dropping by. We will have super zines and materials to make your own Halloweenie zine...ooo!

More details to come. Can't wait for this year to be awesome!! Contact ocadzinelibrary@gmail.com if you want to get involved! I will be contacting those of you who emailed me over the summer and past little while very very soon. Keep an eye out homies.
